Rob Labritz! Makes more cuts at majors than Max Homa
The old guys seem to pick their spots pretty carefully when it comes to course fit when deciding to play on the main tour. There were a lot more olds at Hilton Head compared to Torrey Pines. I think that could lead them to being a little overrated.
Yeah that’s a good point. To make sure there isn’t anything egregiously wrong happening with the Champions data, I’ve regularly looked at how Champions Tour guys play in non-Champions events to see if we are systematically over-valuing their data. And if we are, and I think we were 3-4 years ago, I can make an adjustment to all the Champions Tour data. e.g. suppose players that have played 100% of their rounds on the Champions Tour (of rounds that go into their skill rating) tend to underperform by 0.5 strokes on the PGA Tour; then this would indicate we are over-valuing Champions Tour fields by ~0.5 strokes. And then I could adjust all the Champions data True SG down by 0.5 strokes. It’s a bit of a hack solution but I think it works okay.
Harrington and Couples were two guys I had in mind in the OP, and they have acquitted themselves quite well since then. Then again, Furyk DFL’ed last week.
Furyk has kind of lost it. Not even having many high finishes on the senior circuit. We would have had him as one of the bottom 5 players last week, I believe.
Hard to compete anywhere if your maxing out at 260 off the tee.
