AK 3 birdies in a row and he’s fist pumped all of them. Overturned a 5 shot lead on Rahm today and has a 3 shot lead.
It’s a 2-shot lead… a bit concerning you could be watching this live and not know how many ahead he is… some of your other comments are starting to make a bit more sense in light of this.
How pga Stans can be angry over golf like this just shows how much their marketing/propaganda really worked and messed with the golf world.
Kim is 3 up, 3 to play
Incredible team race with Ripper at home as well
Impressive from AK.
It’s a good tournament and he’s a good story, but don’t pretend this is somehow better than any other exciting golf tournament down the stretch.
It’s much better. AK comeback to overtake two of the best 4 golfers in the game is best single week golf story in years, since what…Tiger at Augusta?
One of best crowds in sports plus home team trying to hold on for added drama
This isn’t Chris Gotterup beating hisatsune or Burmester beating Sergio. Rahm, Bryson and AK are huge names. Throw in cam at home with the Aussie team trying to take down Rahm and Hatton and you get so much added drama on all kinds of other shots (which doesn’t happen on random other events)
Ya it is a good story. AK winning a PGA Tour event would also be a good story.
LIV is on its way to becoming a DPWT-calibre tour (maybe, if they keep at it for a few more years). Unfortunately they had to blow up golf and burn through 5 billion to do it, so I’m not sure we can say it was worth it.
Why so bitter? It has led to scenes like this: will be one of best crowds and best storylines of year.
Has pushed PGA to actually organize their tour like a real league and improve their broadcast to decent levels because LIV has been so much better
Obviously financially it’s not worth it but I don’t care about finances. I am just a golf fan. People who hate LIV tend to be PGA fans, which makes no sense to me. It’s not an impressive organization
I think everyone in here would be happy to focus on the golf and AK. You came in hot and made it all about how LIV is great and PGA stans hate this, blah blah… just enjoy the golf.
I didn’t make it about that at all?
But yes let’s enjoy it. Great finish
Honestly I felt bad last year about the whole thing. He was so bad I kind of wrote it off. He barely made it through Q school, earned his spot back and is about to win. Insane insane stuff
Was a -3 and -2.5 SG player last two years.
Will be 4th straight positive event for him with a T5, a win in the promotions event and a win on LIV running down Rahm and blowing him away
It is insane. Talent doesn’t go away, I guess.
Rahm must be close to his breaking point… just can’t buy a win. Not that he deserved it today.
What is largest trending share you guys have ever had btw?
I think the winner of each week’s tour event usually gets up to 30-40%. AK won’t really pop until tomorrow morning probably.
Kim had 37 consecutive below 0 SG events stretching back to 2012. now 4 straight above 0…a first ?
Best golf on course moments since Tiger at Augusta?
-
Tiger at Augusta
-
Rory finishes Grand Slam-one of most dramatic back nines I can remember in terms of nerves
-
Phil wins major past 50
-
AK wins Adelaide
Scottie has just so many amazing moments but none really stand out do they?
Bryson US Open win has a case I guess
Most majors are ahead of AK for me. It’s a great story but he won an irrelevant event.
edit: Nick Dunlap winning the Am Ex was pretty big when it happened, if we are including lesser wins.
all events are “irrelevant”, he beat 2 of the best players in the world.
plenty of majors are boring and forgettable: Harman won in a tournament that had zero drama. someone has to win each of them, doesn’t make them all great
I said “most” majors. Harman was a bad one. Clark’s win was a good major, Rory was in it late, Rickie was in it for a while.
I mean the majors are incredible, they are the pinnacle of the sport and pretty much always deliver. AK’s win is a different category for me, most of the golf world (those not on twitter) probably aren’t paying attention to it. I think Dunlap’s win is actually a good comp, golf twitter blew up during that.
We are talking about an event that’s similar in calibre to the Puerto Rico Open. I know he beat Rahm and Bryson, but golf is random. I’m not putting that on a list alongside Tiger, Rory, and Phil winning career-defining majors.
golf twitter’s reaction is not a factor for me: they broadly seem reliant on the PGA or work with the PGA so have a big bias.
the overall quality of the event isn’t that important either. he had to overtake two of the best (with others like Hatton in the mix) in front of one of the top 5 atmospheres in the sport. plus the big deal is the comeback story of the winner himself.
