How is Bryson NOT laying up on 15? Someone explain. There’s basically nothing to gain by going for it? Even with a good 2nd shot you’re still gonna have to work for your birdie, and the chance of an eagle is small, to say the least. And he did it from a shit position, in round 3, way up there on the leaderboard. No way that’s a +EV move.

I wonder sometimes if the bombers just sometimes feel like they have to go for it. Obviously they don’t do this all the time, but maybe just subconsciously they feel that way. Bryson also might not have wanted to hit that delicate wedge shot… because his pitching game is questionable (as evidenced by the chunk he ended up hitting).
But ya, seemed like a terrible decision even without hindsight.

How is homa hitting hybrid or 3 wood off 13? That was one of dumbest decisions I’ve ever seen. Announcers and journalists will praise max because he goes on their pods (which means media seems to openly root for him, which I find annoying) but that’s one of worst course management decisions I’ve ever seen

Only 3 eagles on 2 the first 3 rounds. So far this morning they are getting down the hill past the bunker easily. Should play very easy with numerous eagles today.

Lots of guys hit less than driver off 13 if they aren’t comfortable trying to draw a driver. I like Homa now, used to find it annoying how chummy he was with golf twitter / media, but he’s a pretty likeable personality.
Why hit 3 wood then and not some kind of iron? On a day he had no chance of reaching.

Did he have no chance of reaching? He hit it 284 to have 253 in on the right half of the fairway, maybe he was thinking if he turns it over more he could take a shot at it. If he was just playing it as a 3-shot hole, 3-wood still not a crazy choice it’s a pretty massive landing area if you know you’ll be short of right trees.
A quote afterward indicated he wasn’t trying at all to reach that it was a clear 3 shot plan. Maybe that would have changed, it does seem I am overreacting but it just didn’t make sense hearing that
