How horrible golf media is at covering the sport; almost everyone acted like it was a big deal he is coming back and essentially covered him like he was a top 15 player.
And how useful this site is. Everyone who uses this site knows he’s basically irrelevant outside top 100 golfer who has lost tons of pop. The coverage was laughable. He’s played to his mediocre level so far
I’m not sure this is a debate I’m willing to entertain …
But even if he is far from the player he once was, Koepka is still a 5-time major winner, with one of them coming when he was not on the PGA Tour. Also, he is the first player coming back from LIV to play on the PGAT.
So there is the name aspect, and both those facts coming into the equation. I think it was the right call to cover him extensively. Whether he’s good or bad doesn’t really matter. His comeback is a storyline.
What would have everybody said if they covered him like he was Alejandro Tosti? KOEPKA IS BACK AND THEY’RE NOT SHOWING ANY ONE OF HIS SHOTS.
I agree that PGAT broadcasts could be way better but it is what it is.
Plus it wasn’t just the media who were high on BK… betting market also had Brooks fever.
Not saying amount of coverage was necessarily wrong, it was a big story. But there was really no acknowledgement he isn’t good right now and hasn’t been for a while (and has been trending down for a long period of time).
I don’t think the writers and media members covering him even realized his current level
