This new KFT grad class has to be one of the worst ever right? @matt_courchene @will_courchene Do you guys have any data on this? Does the data say any of them will have a good rookie season? Maybe Keefer?
Just honestly don’t think you know what you are going to get with the KFT grads. Don’t think the data would have been too kind on a 2 time PGA winner this year for a 2024 Grad. Would certainly be very interesting to see the data for these guys in past years. The 2024 guys have collectively had a good season this year probably above expection with 7 wins combined.
Why do you think it’s a bad class? Just in terms of star potential?
I would say that Keefer, Shipley, Dumont de Chassart, and Coody have the potential for good-to-great years next season. They could also bomb out, but this will be the second time around for ADdC and Coody on the big tour and I expect them to play well. Keefer and Shipley are good young players (nothing too special though), although that’s not always enough—Luke Clanton is struggling to find his footing right now.
In terms of SG numbers, I think this was a pretty normal class for how many players played above PGA Tour average. I count 10 among players who played a full schedule (not all of whom earned a card), whereas the normal number is 7-8 based on this (old) blog post.
There hasn’t really been a player who is a clear top-25 player in the world to come through the KFT since Will Zalatoris, and that was partly because he got stuck on the KFT for an extra year due to Covid. Just glancing at the past 3 classes… pretty uninspiring names (with the benefit of hindsight). As @Smarty said, it is very hard to predict which careers will pan out and which won’t. Scheffler’s 2019 KFT season actually looked very similar to Keefer’s 2025…
