I was wondering how the ratings deal with golfers who WD during the round. Do you just throw those rounds out or do you have an elegant way of handling it, assuming you have the scores for the holes that the golfer played before WDing.
We just throw them out currently, except in a few exceptional cases (e.g. 2020 Players where I think everyone except 3 players completed the round – we filled in their final hole scores with the field average). Ideally we would do what we’ve done for the WGC match play (which requires handling incomplete rounds) for all rounds but it’s probably not worth it. It also creates potential issues with various pages around the site, and we like to keep everything on the site consistent (i.e. we wouldn’t want a round to be counting in our rankings but not showing up on the profile pages).
